Busta Rhymes is once again honoring the legacy of the late production visionary J Dilla with a brand-new project. The rap icon recently hosted an intimate listening session in New York City to introduce Dillagence 2, the follow-up to their 2007 mixtape collaboration.

Ahead of the pop-up session, Busta confirmed the album on Instagram, writing: “THE BLESSINGS DON’T STOP SO WE DON’T STOP!!! NEVERRR!!! BREAKING NEWS!!!! 👀 BUSTA RHYMES x J DILLA NEW ALBUM!! POP UP LISTENING SESSION TONIGHT!! 🔥🔥🔥.”

The private event brought together close friends, industry peers, and select fans, with those in attendance including Statik Selektah and DJ Tony Touch, who joined Busta as he previewed tracks from the upcoming release. One of the biggest surprises of the night appeared to be a record featuring Lil Wayne (Statik later shared a short clip online and tagged Wayne).

While an official release date and tracklist have not yet been announced, the project builds on a creative bond between Busta and Dilla that stretches back decades. Dilla contributed to much of Busta’s early solo catalog, helping shape the sound of six of his first seven albums. Their original Dillagence, released in 2007, arrived more than a year after Dilla’s passing and featured appearances from artists such as Q-Tip, Phonte, Talib Kweli, Raekwon, M.O.P., and Rah Digga.

In a 2020 conversation with GQ, Busta reflected on the depth of their partnership, revealing: “J Dilla left me with over 300 beats before he passed. I’m extremely selective with who I give them to… I’ve always tried to represent and uphold the legacy of the late, great J Dilla … I think Dilla is probably top three best producers in the world. To me, my top three favorite producers ever are Dr. Dre, Q-Tip and J Dilla.”
